"Eurocopter not for us

AS AN ex-RMAF serviceman with 22 years of service behind me, I believe I am qualified to comment on our government’s insistence to buy the Eurocopter. Worse still, without any physical tests. Buying the Eurocopter for use in Malaysia is like buying an F1 car for use in Petaling Jaya, or a Rolls Royce for use in a rural road.

This Eurocopter is a sophisticated aircraft, it is not meant for the normal role of a helicopter. I still see the Alouette and Nuri (Sea King) in service in other countries.

Eurocopter is more a combat helicopter. Who do we want to fight, anyway? Why use it for search and rescue or during flood relief operations? Other helicopters can do that just as well or even better.

The Eurocopter is expensive. So is the training, spare parts, servicing, accessories for role changes, and armoury. Can we afford the subsequent costs of parts and modern armoury? You don’t buy such a sophisticated machine without evaluation by first going through its built-in purpose, the subsequent cost of training for pilots and ground crew, availability and cost of spare parts, etc.

Saying that the Alouettes and Nuris are old and obsolete is no justification to buy a machine that will not be fully used. Just buying the armoury to go with the machine will cost a "bomb".

It is not a wise decision to buy this helicopter.

Please spare a thought for the poor and under-privileged of our country before going "shopping", more so during such economically trying times.

Untuk orang yang mengaku bekas anggota TUDM dengan perkhidmatan selama 22 tahun, aku rasa amat la memalukan bila dia menidakkan ex-comrades dan succesor dia dalam mengelolakan peralatan canggih. Dan apa maksud dia 'Eurocopter not meant for normal role of helicopter?' Apa dia 'normal role for helicopter' sedangkan helikopter berfungsi dari big boys toys sampai le tank buster. Dan apa TUDM kerja dia selamatkan mangsa banjir aje ke?

Para Tiga - Eurocopter merupakan helikopter tempur....aku gelak guling baca ayat tu. Pergi check Wiki le paling kurang kalau nak tahu lebih pasal Cougar tu...ke mamat ni mata kero sampai tak tahu beza Eurocopter Puma dengan Eurocopter Tiger? Dan ayat "Who do we want to fight anyway" rasa aku ayat klon geng-geng Apek Lim, Bai Karpal, Nyonya Teresa dan rakan-rakannya....

Para Empat - "expensive"..Woi, the lowest bidder, Mil Mi-172 pun 'expensive' tahu tak?

Pada pandangan aku, 'ex-airman' ni bukan sahaja BUKAN bekas anggota TUDM, malah paling dekat dia dengan TUDM pun setakat lalu luar TUDM Subang atau TUDM Sungai Besi. Hey, it might even Apek Lim in disguise! Penggunaan perkataan 'armoury' pun macam pelik aje aku rasa dalam konteks ni....Dan aku pun boleh claim aku bekas anggota tentera...tengok aje sticker TUDM kat kereta aku..hahaha. Dan analogi dia tu aku rasa lagi sesuai kalau Malaysia nak beli Tu-160 Blackjack....

Kesimpulan aku? Civvy dengan kad keahlian Parti Cap Mata Lebam atau Roket dengan tanpa pengalaman hatta masuk kadet tentera!
